Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi

Carl was first elected Marion County Prosecutor in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006. Carl brought to the Prosecutor’s office his belief in victim-centered prosecution which can be summed up in the philosophy that “criminals have a choice, victims don’t.”

Under his comprehensive plan entitled the “Brizzi Brief” Carl focuses the efforts of the Prosecutor’s office on prosecuting, without apology, the worst offenders. Carl is a leader in the fight against sexual predators who use the internet to prey on children. Under Carl, the Prosecutor’s office has conducted dozens of sting operations and arrested over 50 individuals. At the same time, Carl has implemented numerous preventive mentoring programs designed to reach out to children before they come into contact with the criminal justice system.

Carl has fought hard for the children of single parents to ensure they get the child support they deserve. Under Carl’s leadership, the child support division set a record for collections in 2007 – over $93 million, which is a 25% increase since Carl took office. Carl also fulfilled his promise of opening a satellite office to assist busy parents in collecting child support.

In January 2008, Carl joined WIBC as host of “Crime Beat with Carl Brizzi” on FM 93.1 which airs Saturday afternoon’s from 3-5 P.M. The show discusses a wide range of topics relating to crime with special guests.

Carl has been named a “40 Under 40” by the Indianapolis Business Journal, “Outstanding Young Alumnus” by Valparaiso School of Law, and he was included from 2004 to 2009 in the Howey Political Report’s Top 50 Most Influential People in Indiana Politics. Carl is the father of four children: Catherine 16, Emily 14, Lauren 9 and C.J. 6.
